D204: ICT in
Introduction
Imagine that you and a group
of fellow students have had a great new business idea. Your idea is to
provide a PC Health-check service to fellow students, teachers and parents
associated with your school or college. You need to think about
everything that will be involved in setting up a new business. How big is
your potential market? What products and services will you sell? How will you
advertise? How will you split the work up between members of your group? You will need funding to
get started, so you must investigate costs and then put together a proposal
to potential investors to persuade them to invest in your start-up business. You must also prepare
document templates for the business documents that you will need, such as a
letterhead, business card and invoice. All your work will be
displayed in an eportfolio, which will also show how you planned and
monitored the project, which parts you worked on as a group and which
elements are your own individual work.
Getting
started Form a group of three or four people and
check that your teacher is happy with your choice of group. There will not be
as much group work in this sample project as in the real Edexcel project, but
there will be opportunities to work together on some elements and to review
each other’s work. Read the whole project brief to find out
what you have to do. Make sure you understand what all the symbols
mean. These are explained on the home page. This specimen SPB is described in
the book D204: ICT in Enterprise
by R. Heathcote, published by Payne-Gallway. The book describes how to create
all the required elements and put them together in a sample eportfolio. More details on www.payne-gallway.co.uk |
